Afghan Team to Attend Next Peace Talks in Qatar Determined, Women Included

The Afghanistan leadership council after days of consultation decided to send a team of 250 members to Qatar next peace talks in April 2019.

The Afghanistan government finalized the list of delegates to attend the next US-Taliban peace talks in Qatar which id scheduled for April 19-21, reports say.

The government officials, opposition politicians, tribal and religious leaders, and 40 women, and representatives from civil society and the media are decided to attend.

The Afghan authorities yet haven’t said anything officially about the meeting.

Taliban officials met a delegation of powerful Afghan power brokers in Moscow in February, but those talks did not include members of Ghani’s government.

Those talks marked the most significant contact between senior Afghan political figures and the militant group since the U.S.-led invasion in 2001.
