Ariana News Agency: The Taliban Deputy Prime Minister said that 5 million people in Afghanistan are addicted to drugs.
Abdul Salam Hanafi, in a meeting with Madeleine Seidler, deputy head of the Rescue Committee in Kabul, said: “If the international community introduces alternative cultivation to Afghan farmers, the Taliban is ready to completely stop cultivating and producing narcotics in Afghanistan.”
“We will continue our humanitarian work in Afghanistan,” said Madeleine Seidler, deputy director of the International Rescue Committee.
Afghanistan is the world’s largest producer of narcotics, and some statistics show that it alone produces 80 percent of the world’s opium.
