The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that since 1989, 45,000 Afghan citizens have fallen victim to landmines and other explosive remnants of war.

In a post on X, OCHA highlighted that this statistic translates to an average of 110 people in Afghanistan being affected by landmines and unexploded ordnance every month.
