Herzi Halevi, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), announced that he would resign from his position on March 6.
The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Herzi Halevi, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli military, would resign from his post on March 6. In his resignation letter, he wrote: “On the morning of October 7, 2023, the army under my command failed in its mission.”
This resignation follows the defeat of the Israeli military in defending against a surprise attack by Hamas under the operation “Al-Aqsa Flood.” At the same time, Yaron Finkelman, the senior commander of the Israeli military’s southern unit, who was responsible for operations in Gaza, also resigned from his position.
With these two resignations, calls for an investigation into the reasons behind the Israeli military’s failure in this operation have intensified. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who may himself come under investigation for his role in this defeat, has emphasized that any investigation should be delayed until the end of the war in Gaza.
The “Al-Aqsa Flood,” which began on October 7, 2023, is considered a major defeat for Israel. This surprise operation by Hamas has sparked widespread criticism of the Israeli military and government, contributing to a political and military crisis within the Israeli regime.
