Shahbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, requested the global community at an international forum yesterday to impose greater pressure on the Taliban government to implement its international commitments. He stressed that a new wave of terrorism has arisen from Afghan soil, threatening the world, while all borders between the two countries remain closed following recent border clashes.

Shahbaz Sharif Calls on the Global Community to Pressure the Taliban to Fulfill International Commitments

Shahbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, expressed serious concerns about the security situation along the common borders, urging the global community to adopt a more assertive stance regarding the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

Pressure on the Taliban for Accountability

The Prime Minister of Pakistan emphasized at an international forum held on the occasion of the International Year of Peace and Trust and Turkmenistan’s International Neutrality Day:
The global community must exert greater pressure on the Taliban government in Afghanistan to fulfill its commitments, responsibilities, and international obligations.

He pointed to the origin of the current security threats, stating that a new wave of terrorism has emerged from Afghan soil, posing threats to the entire world. Shahbaz Sharif described the peaceful resolution of conflicts as the main pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy during this meeting.

This request comes as relations between the Taliban government of Afghanistan and Pakistan have significantly deteriorated. Pakistan claims that armed groups opposed to it, particularly the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), are entering Pakistan from Afghan soil; however, the Taliban government of Afghanistan has denied these claims, stating that Pakistan should resolve its internal issues itself.

Tensions escalated when forces from both countries engaged in a week-long border conflict in October. The repercussions of these clashes have continued to this day.
