Bilateral Talks with the Taliban Foreign Minister

The Taliban Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Foreign Minister, had discussed bilateral relations and the latest regional developments with Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister.

Mr. Muttaqi emphasized in this contact that stability in the region and the expansion of collaborations are among Afghanistan’s main priorities. Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of continued dialogue among the countries in the region as part of Tehran’s efforts to strengthen regional cooperation. The Iranian Foreign Ministry also stated in a separate announcement that Araghchi emphasized Iran’s readiness to continue its efforts to bolster peace and stability in the region.

Tehran and Moscow’s Agreement on Resolving Disputes through Dialogue

Continuing Iran’s intensive efforts, the Russian Foreign Ministry also announced yesterday that Sergei Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of Russia, discussed regional issues, particularly ways to resolve problems between Afghanistan and Pakistan, with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi.

According to a report from the Russian news agency Interfax, both ministers emphasized during this telephone conversation that the political disagreements that have arisen between Kabul and Islamabad should be resolved solely through dialogue.

Pakistan’s Reception of Mediation

It is worth mentioning that while the Iranian Foreign Minister is consulting with Russian and Taliban officials regarding tensions between Kabul and Islamabad, he had previously offered his mediation to resolve the issues between these two neighboring countries.

The Pakistan Foreign Ministry confirmed on Sunday that it welcomes this Iranian proposal. Tahir Hussain Andrabi, the spokesperson for the Pakistan Foreign Ministry, stated that Islamabad will not decline Iran’s mediation proposal and added that Iran is a brotherly and friendly neighboring country.
