The Taliban’s Ministry of Water and Energy has formally announced through its X platform a warning regarding potential flooding due to heavy rains expected over the weekend.
According to the announcement, flooding is likely in the provinces of Herat, Ghor, Badghis, Samangan, Balkh, Jawzjan, Helmand, Urozgan, Zabul, Kandahar, Sar-e Pol, and Faryab on the 23rd and 24th of Qaws, following relatively heavy rainfall. Flooding may also occur in the river basins of Herirud, Murghab, Helmand, and other northern areas.
In its announcement, the Ministry has urged people living near these rivers to adhere to safety precautions. The ministry emphasized that if water levels rise, residents should stay away from the rivers and that those living in upstream areas should inform downstream communities of the potential risks of flooding.
