The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has published a shocking report stating that Afghanistan is considered one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to climate change, while it has a very minor role in creating this global crisis. This vulnerability has severely limited access to clean water for millions.<\/p>\n

Serious Threat to Public Health<\/h2>\n

According to this UNICEF report, alarming statistics have been recorded showing that 80 percent of the people of Afghanistan \u2013 meaning eight out of every ten citizens \u2013 are forced to use contaminated water.<\/p>\n

This international organization noted that the collapse of health systems following natural disasters and environmental destruction has led to the widespread outbreak of waterborne diseases across the country. UNICEF emphasized the urgent need for affected families for shelter, heating, clean water, and health facilities, highlighting the specific vulnerability of children in these conditions.<\/p>\n

UNICEF\u2019s Climate Resilience Programs<\/h2>\n

In addition to providing emergency aid including shelter, latrines, and food supplies, the United Nations is also implementing programs to increase climate resilience in Afghanistan. Key actions include installing solar pumps in Logar and Paktia provinces, building groundwater recharge systems in Nangarhar province and the city of Jalalabad, and using advanced mapping technology in Kabul to accurately identify groundwater sources and manage them better.<\/p>\n
