The Deputy Governor of Khatlon emphasized Tajikistan’s willingness to expand trade and security cooperation and announced that the Tajik government does not allow any Taliban opposition to operate on its territory and is committed to maintaining good relations with Kabul…<\/strong><\/p>\n

A delegation of high-ranking Tajik officials, led by the Deputy Governor of Khatlon, has traveled to Kunduz province to meet and discuss with Habib-ur-Rahman Saheeb, the Taliban’s Deputy Governor in Kunduz. This trip takes place at a time when relations between Afghanistan and Tajikistan have been fraught with tensions for the past two decades.<\/p>\n

Prevention of Opposition Activities<\/h2>\n

The Deputy Governor of Khatlon, while expressing a strong desire to expand bilateral cooperation, stated that the Tajik government does not allow any Taliban opposition to operate on its territory and is committed to maintaining good relations with Kabul. These remarks may indicate a significant change in Dushanbe’s official stance regarding the Taliban government.<\/p>\n

He also stressed Tajikistan’s request to strengthen relations in the fields of trade, social affairs, and security, and described effective and decisive control of the shared borders as vital for ensuring the security of the entire region.<\/p>\n

Kabul’s Emphasis on Mutual Respect<\/h2>\n

In response, the Deputy Governor of Kunduz stated that Afghanistan also seeks relations based on mutual respect with all neighboring countries, especially Tajikistan. He emphasized the effective and key role of regional cooperation in ensuring sustainable stability and economic growth for both countries and expressed his welcome of Tajikistan’s desire to improve relations.<\/p>\n

It is worth mentioning that one of the main issues of disagreement between the two countries in recent years has always been the presence of some Taliban opposition groups on Tajik soil, and this delegation’s visit could be seen as a step towards resolving these long-standing tensions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
