Frequent power outages in Kabul have disrupted the daily lives of residents and caused widespread dissatisfaction. Despite promises from the Bakhtar Company, under Taliban control, to repair the imported line from Uzbekistan, people say the capital is still shrouded in darkness…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some residents of Kabul say they have been facing extensive blackouts and frequent power cuts for more than a week; an issue that has, according to them, disrupted their daily lives.<\/p>\n

According to these residents, electricity is completely cut off during the day and only connected for a few limited hours at night. They say during this time, household electrical appliances have remained unused and many work and educational activities have been halted.<\/p>\n

People’s Complaints about Power Outages and Disorder in Power Distribution<\/h2>\n

Adila, a resident of the Pansad Family neighborhood in Kabul, says:
It has been a week without electricity. It comes at night, but in the morning, it is cut off again until the night. Life has become very difficult, and we don’t know when this problem will be resolved.<\/p>\n

Another resident from Khairkhana says: Electricity only comes at night for one or two hours. It is completely cut off during the day. All our appliances are electric, but we can’t use them. The power shortages have truly troubled people.<\/p>\n

A similar situation has been reported in the Karte Parwan area. One of the residents of that area says: The electricity is intermittent; we only have three to five hours in 24 hours. The situation has worsened compared to the past.<\/p>\n

Social Media Users’ Reactions<\/h2>\n

Dozens of social media users have also expressed critical views on the official page of the Bakhtar Company, stating that the capital is engulfed in darkness. They have asked the company why the promise to restore the imported electricity from Uzbekistan, which was supposed to take place last Monday, has still not been fulfilled.<\/p>\n

Explanation from Bakhtar Company<\/h2>\n

On Monday, October 20, the Bakhtar Company, under Taliban control, announced that work on repairing the imported power line from Uzbekistan, which was cut off last week, is ongoing and will be connected soon.<\/p>\n

Abdulbari Omar, the executive head of the Bakhtar Company, wrote on his X page on Tuesday, October 21, that technical teams are working day and night, but due to the high water level in the Amu River path, the process is being followed cautiously.<\/p>\n

He confirmed that the 220 kW power line imported from Uzbekistan was cut above the Amu River, which has caused an increase in outages in Kabul and several other provinces.<\/p>\n

Afghanistan’s Heavy Dependence on Imported Electricity<\/h2>\n

According to Bakhtar Company’s information, following this incident, the flow of electricity, including in Kabul, has decreased in 11 provinces of the country. Afghanistan imports a large portion of the energy it needs from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Tajikistan.<\/p>\n

The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) also reported that about 80 percent of the electricity needed by this country is supplied from abroad, and Afghanistan spends nearly $220 million annually purchasing electricity from neighboring countries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
