Child Recruitment by the Taliban Rises by 81% in Afghanistan<\/h2>\n

New findings from the UN Secretary-General regarding children affected by armed conflicts indicate a staggering 81% increase in the recruitment of children into the Taliban<\/a>. According to this report, from January 2022 to January 2025, at least 1,415 children in Afghanistan have lost their lives or sustained injuries as a result of these conflicts.
These statistics reveal that among total casualties, 446 children have died, while 969 others have been injured. Approximately 80% of these casualties were caused by explosions from mines and remnants of explosives left over from previous conflicts.<\/p>\n

Child Rights Violations and Humanitarian Challenges<\/h2>\n

One of the alarming aspects of this report is the recruitment of 557 young children, some as young as 12 years old, into military ranks, all attributed to the Islamic Emirate. Despite a 38% decrease in the overall recorded cases of child rights violations to 4,582, obstacles to humanitarian aid have surged, with incidents rising by an unprecedented 189% to 2,241.
Within this period, there have also been 338 reported attacks on schools and healthcare facilities, alongside 24 cases of sexual violence and 7 instances of child abduction.<\/p>\n

UN Calls for Policy Changes<\/h2>\n

The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative has emphasized the urgent need to lift restrictions on the education of girls beyond grade six and the prohibition of women working in humanitarian organizations, warning of the negative impact these limitations have on health and educational services.
