Escalating Trade Crisis Between Afghanistan and Pakistan Due to Tensions<\/h2>\n

Ongoing unresolved tensions between the Taliban government and Pakistan have significantly impacted the trade and economic activities of both countries. The closures of border crossings have disrupted exports, imports, and transit, leading traders from both sides to call for the reopening of trade routes.<\/p>\n

Agricultural products, particularly fresh fruits, account for a significant portion of Afghanistan’s exports. Traders report that the closure of trade routes has led to price drops and spoilage of some products. Akhtar Mohammad Ahmadi, the head of the Fresh Fruit Market, told Radio Azadi that the prices of fresh fruits have decreased by approximately 50% compared to last year. He stated, “The price of a seer of grapes in the Kabul market ranges from 40 to 80 Afghanis, while a seer of apples costs between 50 and 100 Afghanis. Similarly, the prices of figs, apricots, and pears have dropped considerably as well.”<\/p>\n

Trade Between Afghanistan and Pakistan Suffers a $2.5 Billion Loss<\/h2>\n

Yusuf Afridi, the head of the Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industry, announced on Thursday that the closure of border crossings has caused around $2.5 billion in losses to trade with Afghanistan. This loss includes $1.644 billion in exports and $817 million in imports. The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment also previously reported million-dollar damages resulting from the blockage of routes.<\/p>\n

Mohammad Younus Mohmand, the first deputy of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, told Radio Azadi that the closures have also harmed trade and transport services, and Afghanistan needs to explore alternative routes.<\/p>\n

Pakistani traders have also expressed concerns about the current situation. Syed Hussain Jawad Kazemi, a member of the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce, emphasized that trade without security faces serious challenges and called for security measures to enhance trade.<\/p>\n

Reports indicate that a meeting was held in Peshawar with traders and political analysts to discuss security and the revival of trade between the two countries.
