Entrepreneurship among Afghan Youth: Economic Challenges and Obstacles<\/h2>\n

Young Afghans seeking to start their own businesses often encounter a range of hurdles. Many possess limited financial resources, relying on their savings to kick off their ventures. However, when there is no adequate market for sales and people’s purchasing power is low, sustaining their operations becomes increasingly difficult.<\/p>\n

Mohib, a resident of Kabul, invested nearly 200,000 Afghanis two years ago to establish a men’s tailoring workshop. He faced challenges that halted his business journey. He shares, “With this amount, I was only able to purchase four sewing machine bases and some raw materials, but due to the shop’s poor location and insufficient demand, I was unable to continue my business.”<\/p>\n

Social and Economic Challenges<\/h2>\n

These hurdles are not confined to traditional businesses alone. Recently, several young people have turned to online trading. Hashima, an entrepreneur, started her online business selling women’s handbags and shoes three years ago, investing around 40,000 Afghanis. Yet, social and economic restrictions led to the suspension of her operations. She remarks, “I thought this business could help other women and girls, but ultimately, I was not successful.”<\/p>\n

Economic activists believe that the shortage of capital and lack of expertise, combined with increasing supply and decreasing demand, exacerbate the challenges faced by small businesses. Khan Jan Alkozai, adviser to the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, identifies these issues as key contributors to the failures of youth entrepreneurs: “Our young people not only lack adequate capital but also do not have access to necessary expertise, making the market difficult for them.”<\/p>\n

The Need for Economic Support<\/h2>\n

Experts assert that for small businesses to thrive, financial support and access to favorable loans are crucial. Azarakhsh Hafizi, an economic analyst, outlines several solutions: “Establishing support systems, providing financial exemptions, and government backing for ventures can contribute to their success.”<\/p>\n

Additionally, Mawlawi Mohammad Siddiq Tawheed, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, announces initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills of young people and marketing domestic products.<\/p>\n
