They express that amid rising unemployment and escalating food prices, the collection of this tax is exacerbating their economic challenges.<\/p>\n<p>One resident from Nangarhar, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated, &#8220;There is no accountability or transparency. While people are desperate and struggling for a piece of bread, taking ten Afghanis from every hundred is burdensome for them.&#8221; He added that the public is unaware of where this money is being allocated.<\/p>\n<h2>Concerns Regarding the Transparency of Mobile Phone Tax<\/h2>\n<p>Another Kabul resident echoed similar concerns, saying, &#8220;Imposing a tax on mobile phone credit puts further economic pressure on the people, and there is no transparency regarding the collected funds.&#8221; He emphasized that if this tax does not contribute to improving people&#8217;s welfare, it should be abolished.<\/p>\n<p>In response to these concerns, the spokesperson for the Taliban&#8217;s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has not provided answers to the inquiries. However, the Afghanistan Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ATRA), which operates under the ministry, previously stated that transparency in the tax collection process has been ensured.<\/p>\n<h2>Background on Mobile Phone Tax<\/h2>\n<p>Reports indicate that nearly 29 million people in Afghanistan utilize telecommunications services.
